The Director of the Institute of Human Genetics Polish Academy of Sciences announces an open competition for the Leader of an Independent Research Group (IRG for short) at the Department of Nucleic Acid Function.
I. General information

- The subject of research that will be conducted as part of the Independent Research Group at the Department of Nucleic Acid Function: as in point 3. It is required that the research will be conducted at a high scientific level, using the most modern methods of molecular biology, in particular concerning the analysis of protein-RNA interactions in the context of research on the structure and dynamics of ribonucleoprotein interactomes in the development of germ cells. Competences in using the bioinformatics tools necessary for the analysis of data obtained using high-throughput techniques are also key. The research results should be published in reputable international journals. In addition, the candidate should have funds to conduct research at the time of entering the competition and, after winning it, be active in obtaining further grants for the implementation of his/her research projects.

II. Requirements for candidates
- Holding the title of professor or the academic degree of habilitated doctor of medical sciences.
- Track record of significant scientific achievements in the field of development genetics, including molecular mechanisms of post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression.
- Experience in managing research projects.
- Very good command of spoken and written English.
- Long-term research internships will be an additional advantage.
- Having research funding.
III. List of documents to be attached to the application.
- CV and cover letter.
- Short description and vision of the Independent Research Group functioning, including research programme and needed human resources.
- Copy of the decision on awarding the title of profesor or the academic degree of habilitated doctor.
- List of publications, indicating a maximum of five most important works carried out in the last 5 years of the candidate’s research work (after deduction of breaks in scientific work), patent applications, patents, implementations, research projects.
- Information on the number of citations of publications without self-citations, the Hirsch index and the number of years effectively worked in science.
- List of research projects (including application and implementation projects) which the Candidate managed or was their main contractor, and 1-3 most important publications resulting from the project implementation or other measurable results of the project.
- Self-presentation not exceeding 3 500 characters (1 page A4) containing concise information on research interests, achievement up to date, possible participation in research projects and own research plans.

IV. Candidates’ evaluation criteria:
- High level of conducted research.
- Creativity measured by the quality and number of scientific publications (in which the candidate is the first, corresponding or significant author) and patent applications/patents/ or implementations.
- Mobility in a scientific career (including research internships, changing the scientific profile, internships and work in industry.
- Number of citations and publications of the candidate, especially those in which the candidate is the first, corresponding or significant author.
- Creativity measured by the quality and number of managed research projects.
- Breaks in scientific work and the candidate’s indicated achievements converted into effective years of scientific work.
- Motivation to work in science.
- Command of English.
V. Date of providing competition results
Up to 30 days from the deadline for submitting documents.
VI. Planned duration of performing the function of the IRG leader:
Entrusting the position of the group leader for a specified period of 12 months, with the possibility of further extension. The condition for extending the position of the IRG leader is to have independent financing within leader’s own research project.
VII. Information on the possibility of appeal by a Candidate with a negative opinion from the competition committee.
Candidates with a negative opinion from the Competition Committee have the right to appeal against the results of the evaluation. The appeal is submitted to the Director of the Institute within 7 days from the date of receiving information about the negative opinion from the Competition Committee. The decision of the Director of the Institute is final.
