Professor Grzegorz Węgrzyn – member of the Scientific Council of the IHG PAS has been appointed to chair the Council of Scientific Excellence.
The Council of Scientific Excellence is a new body for the development of scientific staff. It takes care of the quality standards of scientific activity required to obtain degrees, degrees in art and professorship. Ultimately, the CSE will replace the Central Commission for Degrees and Titles.
Professor Węgrzyn was born in 1963 in Gdańsk. Since 1999 he has been working at the University of Gdańsk, where he currently holds the position of Head of the Department of Molecular Biology. Since 2011 he has been a member of the Scientific Council of IHG PAS, and in the term 2019-2022 he was appointed to this function on behalf of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of PAS.
Professor Wegrzyn led a team of scientists who developed the first effective treatment for Sanfilippo’s disease to stop the destructive processes of the disease. His research interests include mechanisms of DNA replication of plasmids and bacteriophages, regulation of gene expression in bacterial cells and the use of electric bio-chips.
